The exhibition

Throughout the exhibition, the princes of modern painting - Braque, Chagall, Cocteau, Matisse, Rouault, Van Dongen and the grandiose Bernard Buffet - are highlighted, as are some of the winners of the Grand Prix des peintres témoins de leur temps, such as Ambrogiani and Brayer, with a striking portrait of Georges Brassens. Jean Couty, winner in 1975 with Le Chantier du métro, was already a well-known artist. Exhibiting in Paris with Katia Granoff, he was also the leader of the Lyon school, with the likes of André Cottavoz, Jean Puy and Jean Fusaro.
