Paul-Élie Dubois. Itinéraire(s) d’un peintre voyageur
The exhibition
A 13th-century medieval fortress perched on a rocky outcrop, the Château des Ducs de Wurtemberg in Montbéliard dominates the town and surrounding area. The Paul-Élie Dubois exhibition retraces the life of a native of the region (1886-1949) who was firmly attached to his family roots, then exposed to Parisian artistic life before finally becoming famous as the "painter of the Hoggar". Two hundred paintings, drawings, archive documents and period objects retrace his career in a chronological tour directed by Barbara Gouget. Between academicism, colonial art and modernity, Paul-Élie Dubois was in tune with the times.
