A student of Gustave Moreau, Henri Matisse is a French painter, draftsman and sculptor. His work obeys only to the search for balance of forms and colors, unlike Picasso, his great rival but nevertheless friend. He was considered the leader of Fauvism, and a source of inspiration for Viallat, Hantaï, Motherwell, among others.
