Fondation Villa Datris "Faire corps"

Fondation Villa Datris

The exhibition

Taking over the entire villa and garden, the Faire corps exhibition celebrates pioneering feminist artist Niki de Saint Phalle with her manifesto Last Night I Had a Dream (1968). Her eighteen sculptures explore the role of women in society, as well as questions of identity and racial equality, in a whimsical and colorful mode. It is echoed by a number of works by women sculptors who use the body as an instrument of revolt, protest and feminist struggle: Elsa Sahal's erotic, uninhibited Venus, the turgid, organic creations of Louise Bourgeois and Mâkhi Xenaki... The latter assert the specificity of the female body with humor, if not insolence, while the matrix-like works of Prune Nourry and Ana Mendieta take us back to the origins of the human being and the myths of creation.
