Nathanaëlle Herbelin. Être ici est une splendeur.

Nathanaëlle Herbelin. Être ici est une splendeur. : Nathanaëlle Herbelin, Attention non divisé[e], 2023, huile sur toile, 130 x 190 cm, Collection particulière, courtesy artiste et Xavier Hufkens, Bruxelle.

The exhibition

At Orsay, Nathanaëlle Herbelin engages in conversation with the Nabis.

As part of the polyphonies at the Musée d'Orsay, exhibition curators Christophe Leribault and Nicolas Gausserand have invited Nathanaëlle Herbelin to establish a dialogue with the masterpieces in the rooms dedicated to the Nabis. This choice makes sense, as the intimate painting of Bonnard, Vuillard, Vallotton, or Maurice Denis has nourished the gaze of the Franco-Israeli artist since childhood.

Indeed, Nathanaëlle Herbelin, a former student at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, is one of the most remarkable representatives of this resurgent figurative painting. "When I see a Bonnard, I rejoice as if I were meeting someone I adore," the artist confides in her interview with Nicolas Gausserand. The evidence of this love lies in her very personal interpretation of the painter while immersing herself in his work of light and drawing inspiration from his subjects.
