Henri Michaux, "discovered" by Daniel Cordier, exhibited recently at the Point Cardinal in Paris. He has been seen at the São Paulo Biennale, the Venice Biennale, the Guggenheim in New York, and the Documenta in Kassel... He never ceases to explore all the possibilities of invading the space to be painted, an impressive corollary of his ability to self-write. A little-known figure to the general public, a solitary man who did not want to be (re)known, Henri Michaux, first a poet close to the Surrealists and a major painter, is an extraordinary character.

In Michaux's work, signs, stains, invented writings secrete unknown forms and territories in vibrations. For him, the inner space contains an infinite quantity of forms, beings, and states, of unprecedented extent. They must therefore be revealed: "Like me, the line seeks without knowing what it seeks, refuses immediate findings, the solutions that present themselves, the first temptations..." Writing and painting, two ways of discovering one's hidden distances.
