Nasreddine Bennacer. "Au bout de l’homme, la trace."

Nasreddine Bennacer.

The exhibition

Nasreddine Bennacer is back in Paris and presents a brand new exhibition at Galerie Lazarew entitled "At the End of Man, the Trace". Inspired by a Berber proverb, this exhibition is an opportunity for the artist to reflect on the traces left by humanity through time while drawing inspiration from his own journey. Born in Guelma, Algeria, in 1967, he spent his childhood there before arriving in France in 1991. He gradually developed his artistic practice and experimented with various mediums, notably charcoal drawing and gouache on Japanese paper.

In his work, Nasreddine captures a present moment, bearing witness to a vain quest for immortality. The exhibition "At the End of Man, the Trace" thus serves as a way for the artist to anchor his work in a search based on the exploration of energy flows between individuals and our relationship with the organic. Time and its stakes are revealed in works imbued with identity and emotions. In a 2020 interview, Nasreddine stated that it is «strong emotions that inspire [him], such as injustices, human conditions. [He] expresses only 10% of the emotion that boils inside [him].» These emotions are reflected in his work: they embody the powerful fragility of time that so many seek to grasp.
