The exhibition

After its first exhibition, Mouvement et Lumière, in 2012, Villa Datris is back with a second instalment on kinetic art and its resonances, demonstrating through the quality of its selection and display how far the foundation dedicated to contemporary sculpture has come.

There's an air of first love in the story between kinetic art and the duo formed by Villa Datris founder Danièle Marcovici and her late husband Tristan Fourtine. Their discovery of this "playful and participatory" art, and the Op'Art that followed it, led to further exploration of sculpture and the creation of a major collection, bringing together works as diverse as an enamelled stone by Johan Creten, the projection of a rock bestiary on a wall by Samuel Rousseau and a textile sculpture by Suzanne Husky. Kineticism, Op'Art... these are just some of the terms used to describe the attraction of several generations of artists to movement, both of the visual medium and of the body experimenting with the work.
