The exhibition

A decade after its first appearance in his work, the Tondi N+10 exhibition celebrates the return of the round format for Dan Barichasse. At the Orbis Pictus gallery, the artist presents a wide range of works, including his double tondi. On large formats measuring 130 cm in diameter, the painter combines various techniques to create chemical reactions on the canvas. Far from the formalism of his beginnings in the 1980s, these transformations are part of a "process of mutation of matter", based on a marriage between density and fluidity, giving rise to forms as well as a general movement. Earth, Air, Water and Fire: this dynamism echoes the forces moving these elements, which give the illusion of moving randomly through the format of his tondi. In this way, his work confronts "a metamorphic art where microcosm and macrocosm become one", according to Christian Noorbergen. This interplay of scales reinforces the symbiosis between form and content that the artist seeks, reaffirming the idea of perfection to which the circle refers. His reflection on this form is partly inspired by his reading of ancient and biblical texts, whose poetry nourishes his work.
