Elliott Erwitt. Une rétrospective.

Elliott Erwitt. Une rétrospective. : Vue de l'exposition

The exhibition

With 215 photographs taken from 1948 to 2009, from one coast of the United States to the other, as well as in Asia and the Soviet bloc - and also in Paris, which occupies a prominent place - the exhibition, held on three levels of the Maillol Museum, forms a well-defined path. From black and white to color, from his most glamorous photographs to city photos, including children, beach life, dogs... This retrospective shows to what extent the man who joined the Magnum Agency in 1953 and at the same time led a career as a television director does not refuse any subject. Commercial, personal, humanistic or architectural, his work instinctively mixes humor, precision and emotions. The Maillol Museum is not an insignificant choice: the Recording Women section fits perfectly into the universe of Aristide Maillol's sculptures and creates a singular encounter between these two artists. "The purpose of taking photographs is not to have to explain things in words," Erwitt once said.
