Eva Aeppli, the soul is in purgatory
"I must tell you about Eva Aeppli, because without her I could not have become constructive and existed [...], I was forced to face this woman who thought only of self-destruction and disappearance." These words of Jean Tinguely in 1983 are one of the rare testimonies of a life and work in the form of the myth of Orpheus, struggling with a darkness that has veiled its knowledge. Under the spotlights and shadows of Jean Kalman - to whom we owe the lights of her shows with Christian Boltanski and Franck Krawczyk - the Centre Pompidou-Metz takes us into the purgatory that Eva Aeppli wove throughout her life by studding it with the works of those closest to her.
