Born in 1928 in Manzanillo, Cuba, Joaquín Ferrer studied at the School of Fine Arts in Havana. Between 1954 and 1958, he exhibited his works every year at the Salon of Painting of the Museum of Modern Art in Havana. His first solo exhibition was held in the Cuban capital at the La Rampa Gallery in 1950. In 1960, he was granted a scholarship by the Ministry of Education to study in France. After settling permanently in Paris, in his studio in Pigalle, Joaquín Ferrer participated in the "Latin American Art" exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in 1962. In 1968, Marx Ernst presents and prefaces his first solo exhibition at the gallery Le Point Cardinal. A retrospective of his work is presented at the Maison de l'Amérique Latine in 2017. Joaquín Ferrer, naturalized French, died on March 24, 2022 in Paris.
