Tony Oursler is an American artist, born in 1957 in New York, who works mainly with video and installation. He extracts the video work from the screen: projected onto objects, architectures or ovoid shapes evoking balloons, Tony Oursler's videos take on a hybrid character, at once comic and disturbing. Tony Oursler created his first videos at the California Institute of the Arts, where he studied from 1976 to 1979. From 1977 onwards, he integrated his videos into figurative and narrative installations, made up of sets and figures of a hybrid character, both burlesque and tragic.
