James Guitet

1925 (Nantes) / 2010

After having followed a classical training, James Guitet pursues graphic and pictorial experiments which go from Socialist Realism to Cubism. The friendship that linked him to Michel Ragon and their exchange of views provided an opening and emulation to his research. In 1948, he painted his first abstract painting; he wrote about it: "The passage from figuration to abstraction was done very slowly. More and more the object seemed to me an "insignificant" residue or reducing the meaningful form to enslavement. It seemed to me that by eliminating this residue which was only an external aspect, I could plunge more deeply into the mystery of the life".
