Jacques-Émile Blanche

1861 (Paris) / 1942 (Offranville)

So who was Jacques-Émile Blanche? He himself found it difficult to position himself, as he wrote, hesitating: "I forget a little what my real profession is, painter or writer first? This questioning reflects his life's journey, between two activities, between two cities, even between two countries - France and England -, which prevented his contemporaries from classifying him in a category. Some underestimated him, as Apollinaire did with an acute pen. Others, the most numerous, considered him as a writer-journalist encountered in the social salons and who collaborated with several magazines, enjoying chronicling his time.
