Philippe Pasqua's work is part of an Anglo-Saxon tradition of contemporary portraiture which, from Bacon and Freud to Jenny Saville, both disturbs and attracts. His large, violent and immodest canvases of nudes, his immense heads of Down's syndrome, his full-length representations of transsexuals, his silver sculptures of the Vanities, all disrupt preconceived ideas. All his creations arouse artistic pleasure, unavowable or sometimes disguised in the ecumenical garb of brotherhood and goodness.
