Titien
1490 (Pieve Di Cadore) / 1576 (Venise)
"To all lord, all honor. It would be Titian the first, who would introduce doubt and anguish all at once - metaphysics in a way - into Venetian painting. Adored artist and skilful merchant - if not miserly say his enemies -, imperial knight bearing coat of arms and living magnificently, the one whose brush Charles V would have picked up, however, fears nothing and no one. Tiziano Vecellio is moreover the only one who dares like kings, to sign with his only first name: Titian.
