Alberto Giacometti
1901 (Stampa) / 1966 (Coire)
Alberto Giacometti began drawing at an early age, encouraged by his father Giovanni Giacometti, a famous Swiss painter and impressionist. When he moved to Paris, he rubbed shoulders with the avant-garde artists of the early 20th century: André Masson, Michel Leiris and was similarly inspired by primitive art and the classics of the Renaissance. In this case, his relationship to archaic art is found in the simplification and purity of the forms of his sculptures.
