Joan Miro

1893 (Barcelone) / 1983 (Palma de Majorque)

"Joan Miro in 1930 speaks of "the assassination of painting" and maintains, "Art has been in decadence since the cave age." He thus buys "scabs" to repaint them: in "Characters and Birds in a Landscape" (1976), Miro throws a net of black lacquer and red signs in all directions on the painting and its golden frame, but allows the landscape and the duck flight to show through."
Text by François Jeune, Art absolument n°27, January 2009.
