Georges Seurat
1859 (Paris) / 1891 (Paris)
Georges Seurat, French painter and pioneer of pointillism, worked at the end of the 19th century within the framework of the “retinal party” posed by the Impressionists, adding to it his sense of scientific rigor. His studies on the division of light lead him to paint juxtaposed colored dots, accurately rendering light vibrations. During his short career - some ten years - he painted only seven large compositions following these principles, but left us hundreds of sketches.
