Paul Klee

1879 (Münchenbuchsee) / 1940 (Locarno)

"You see, I have here a small surface, the surface of a painting. Naturally I would like to fill this limited surface with all my senses and all my strength... I measure the limits, those of the rectangle. I go back and forth from one end to the other... I draw parallels... The movement of the lines and the surfaces constantly gives birth to new limits... What I find is the diversity of limits that have become innumerable".
quote from Paul Klee reported by Lothar Schreyer, Art Absolument n°1, May 2002
