Dominique Ingres

1780 (Montauban) / 1867 (Paris)

Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, an exceptional painter and draughtsman, is famous for his portraits and bath scenes, including The Turkish Bath (1862), in which we see a great mastery of the female nude. Both classical and stylized, his paintings contain numerous oddities that are often reproved and make him an unclassifiable artist. His concern for realism and the precision of his line have influenced many artists to this day.
