Giovanni Bellini
1433 (Venise) / 1516 (Venise)
Considered the precursor of the Venetian school, the Italian painter Giovanni Bellini, also known as Giambellino, came from a family of painters, and had Andrea Mantegna as his brother-in-law. His innovative style was one of detachment from the Gothic tradition, and gave him fame and fortune in the Serenissima. He realized a considerable number of Madonnas, in which he introduced an almost palpable animation of extreme beauty. He was also able to develop his art at the end of his life, in contact with the younger generation represented by Giorgione and Titian.
