The Lambinet Museum, an 18th-century mansion, was built for Joseph-Barnabé Porchon, a contractor for Louis XV’s construction projects. In 1929, the city of Versailles accepted a bequest from Mrs. Nathalie Lambinet to establish a museum there, which opened to the public in 1932. Having benefited from a transfer of fine art collections from the municipal library and subsequently enriched through purchases, donations, and bequests, the Lambinet Museum is a true “collectors’ museum.”
