Benoît Luyckx is a French contemporary artist born in 1955. He graduated from the École Boulle in 1976, then continued his studies at the Beaux-arts de Paris, before devoting himself fully to sculpture, going from one career to another. He discovered the famous Carrara marble in Italy and the Belgian marble. Benoît Luyckx transposes his thoughts into the mineral (stones and marbles) which he sculpts in direct size. Inspired by great universal themes such as infinity, modernity, nature or the body, he goes beyond materiality, evolving permanently between the figurative and the abstract. The artist is very interested in movement and particularly in the dynamics of his sculptures which, despite their material, become light. He expresses his view of nature in a duality rendered by the contrast of raw, striated, polished materials... His travels in the United States in the 1980s inspired him greatly in his interpretation of modernity. Depending on the period of his career, his works are modernist, architectural, spiral, plant or organic...
He has worked for Hermès, the Chanel headquarters in Neuillysur-Seine, the Palais de Justice in Evreux, the French Embassy in Phnom Penh (Cambodia), Moët & Chandon, HSBC, Vinci, Eiffage, in collaboration with architects Paul Chemetov, Adrien Fainsilber, Jean-Pierre Lott, Pierre-Yves Rochon, Philippe Starck, Juan Trindade and the Pinto agency. Benoît Luyckx exhibits in various galleries in Europe and has had several exhibitions in the United States. His work is presented in important private collections and foundations.
