O'Keeffe: Georgia on my mind

Hoagy Carmichael was not thinking of any particular Georgia when he composed Georgia on my mind in 1930. This worldwide hit appears today as an unconscious tribute to the pioneering genius of Georgia O'Keeffe, the first woman to conquer modern American art. Itinerary of a Spoiled Child at the Centre Pompidou. She was there, in front of our eyes, and we didn't see her - or so little. Georgia O'Keeffe is certainly the missing link between women and modernity. Although she herself felt that she was the right person at the right time in the right place, Georgia was aware of her value: "Men like to describe me as the best female painter," she said. But no, I think I'm one of the best painters (in the world)!"
