Art Montpellier 2023

Art Montpellier 2023 :

The exhibition

Anchored in a region that saw the emergence of the Supports/Surfaces movement and Figuration Libre, the Art Montpellier fair continues to open up to the public the creative output of the South and the Mediterranean Rim, with its 7th edition focusing on transparency and light. Didier Vesse, Art Montpellier's director, explains.

The theme of this year's fair, "Lumières et Transparences", is not imposed on exhibitors. It's a free proposal that twenty galleries have decided to follow, through their artists and their scenography. This year, we are welcoming twenty new galleries, which in fact brings renewal and allows us to reinvent ourselves, and ten galleries have chosen to devote their stand to a solo show: this is often beneficial in terms of coherence and understanding vis-à-vis collectors and visitors. ART FIVE Gallery presents a solo show by Speedy Graphito, a continuator of Figuration Libre, and Pop Galerie, which specializes in Art Brut and Art Modeste, shows the work of Françoise Eloire, whom it discovered and is helping to promote. We wanted to work with representative regional galleries, such as AD Galerie, which promotes Figuration Libre, and At Down, which showcases street art from Montpellier. Of course, we're not chauvinists, and we're delighted to welcome the Lille-based artists represented by Galerie Bacqueville. In addition, the problem of acquiring works of art is one of our prerogatives, and we felt it important to highlight art editions, which are often the source of a first purchase: these are represented by Anagraphis Editions at the entrance to the show.
