Henry Taylor opens Hauser & Wirth's Paris gallery
One of the world's most powerful galleries, Hauser & Wirth, has chosen African-American artist Henry Taylor to open its Paris gallery - rather than an artist more directly linked to the French capital. Currently enjoying a retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, Taylor is best known for his painting, which focuses mainly on black subjects, combining views of everyday life and large-scale figures in bold foreshortenings. In Paris, he is also showing his sculptural work, including a monumental tree topped by a vast Afro haircut.
